The following Policies exist to safeguard the wellbeing of our pupils and to ensure that the good name of our School continues to be associated with high quality teaching and the enjoyment of dance.

The school reserves the right to refuse entry to classes if these rules are not complied with. The school reviews and amends its Policies on a regular basis and advises parents and pupils to read this document thoroughly to ensure a clear understanding is gained. Please contact reception if you require more information.

Safeguarding Policy

Attitude Dance and its volunteers are committed to ensuring safe environments for children and young people and believe that it is always unacceptable for a child or young person to experience abuse of any kind. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children and young people, by a commitment to recommend best practice which protects them.

This policy applies to our paid staff, volunteers, students or anyone working on behalf of the dance school.

We recognise that:

  • the welfare of the child/young person is paramount

  • all children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse

  • working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare

 The purpose of this policy:

  • to provide protection for the children and young people who participate in our show productions, exams or any other activities

  • to provide staff and volunteers with guidance on procedures they should adopt in the event that they suspect a child, or young person may be experiencing, or be at risk of harm

We will seek to safeguard children and young people by

  • valuing them, listening to and respecting them

  • adopting child protection guidelines through procedures and safe working practice for staff and volunteers

  • recruiting staff and volunteers safely, ensuring all necessary checks are made

  • sharing information about child protection and safe working practice with children, parents, staff and volunteers

  • sharing information about concerns with agencies who need to know, and involving parents and children appropriately

  • providing effective management for staff and volunteers through supervision, support and training

The dance school director will review this policy each year in May in line with Safe Network guidance or sooner in light of any changes in legislation or guidance. All changes will be communicated to our members with immediate effect.

All the teachers are DBS checked and fully insured. There are staff who are First Aid trained and regularly attend Child Protection and Safeguarding Training. We also have a Safeguarding officer.

Dancers Code of conduct

We expect all dancers to:

  • respect all teaching staff. This includes listening when the teacher is speaking, not talking back, not talking during lessons unless asking a question and applying corrections/trying new suggestions positively, we are here to get the best out of your child and support them in progressing.

  • treat all other pupils as you would wish to be treated yourself. Support each other, don’t criticise. Encourage your fellow class members and be positive. Bullying in any form will not be tolerated. Also, do not correct other members of your class. You are not the teacher- however support each other with learning choreography if you see someone struggling and they ask.

  • Be on time. Punctuality is important and we don't want our classes disrupted by this.

  • be prepared. There are no excuses for coming to class unprepared. If you are unsure of uniform or what is required for class each week, please ask.
(all black or Attitude Dance uniform)

  • always ask for help if you need it.

  • attend class every week unless with good reason. Regular class attendance is key to improving yourself as a dancer. For every class you miss, you effectively put yourself back a week in terms of training. Over time this can have a big impact on your overall standard and behind on show/comp routines.

In class you must:

  • switch off your phone and dont use during class time.

  • wear correct uniform.

  • wear your hair up out of the face. A ponytail or bun is acceptable.

  • remove all jewellery.

  • non-fizzy drink to keep hydrated.  This is for consumption during breaks only. Water is sold at reception

  • no gum.

(By signing your enrolment form, means you have read and fully understand/agree to all the above.)
